How TRICARE For Life Works With Medicare Advantage

Retired military members receive TRICARE For Life, which covers what Medicare doesn't — including prescription drugs.

If you have Part A and Part B, you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan without losing TRICARE. Just choose a plan without drug coverage, since TRICARE already handles that. TRICARE For Life remains secondary and continues covering your co-pays.

Turning 65? Enroll in Medicare Part B three months before your birthday — your TRICARE Prime or Select automatically converts to TRICARE For Life at no premium. Dependents with CHAMPVA qualify for the same Medicare Advantage options.

All About Tracy

I have been in the finance and insurance industry since the early 1990s — over 36 years of experience helping people protect what matters most.

I have family members currently serving in the United States military. This is not just a career for me — it is personal. I know what it means to watch someone you love serve this country and trust that their benefits will be there when they need them.

I find great satisfaction in helping the retired military community. TRICARE For Life is an incredible benefit reserved only for those who have served at least 20 years. You earned it. The Medicare Advantage plans I work with coordinate with TRICARE For Life without affecting your military benefits in any way.

Today I focus exclusively on helping retired military and their spouses with Medicare Advantage. This focus allows me to give every client the level of service and attention they deserve.

What Veterans Are Saying

Bill H., U.S. Army Veteran, Ohio

"Tracy walked me through everything I was missing. I had no idea I could add a Medicare Advantage plan on top of TRICARE. Now I have dental, vision, and a gym membership — all for $0 more per month."

Carol S., Military Spouse, North Carolina

"Tracy has family in the military and you can feel that he genuinely cares. He is not trying to sell you something — he is making sure you get what you earned."

David R., Retired USMC, South Carolina

"I have been retired for 12 years and nobody ever told me about these benefits until Tracy. Do not wait as long as I did."

FAQs

Key Questions Answered: Simplifying Your Insurance Choices

Will I lose my TRICARE For Life benefits?

No. TRICARE For Life will continue to work as your secondary insurance alongside Medicare Advantage. Your co-pays, prescriptions, and military benefits remain fully intact.

Who covers the cost of my prescriptions and where can I pick them up?

TRICARE For Life still covers your prescriptions. Have them filled just as before — at your military pharmacy, Express Scripts, or retail pharmacy. There are no changes.

Am I still paying my Medicare Part B premium?

Yes, you continue paying your Medicare Part B premium. However, depending on the plan you choose, a portion of that premium may be paid back to you by the plan through a Part B giveback benefit.

Will I have co-pays?

TRICARE For Life continues to cover your co-pays on Medicare Advantage plans, just as it does on Original Medicare.

Which card do I present to my doctors and hospitals?

Present your Medicare Advantage card first as your primary insurance, then show your military ID so the provider knows TRICARE For Life is your secondary. Billing is handled automatically between the two.

Can I see the same doctors I currently see?

Yes, in most cases. The majority of doctors who accept Original Medicare also accept Medicare Advantage. The plans Tracy works with are PPO programs — no referrals needed and you can see specialists directly.

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?

No. The plans Tracy recommends are PPO plans so you do not need a referral to see a specialist. It is best to stay in-network for simplified billing but out-of-network options are available.

Can I go back to Original Medicare or change my plan?

Yes. During the Annual Enrollment Period each year from October 15 to December 7 you can switch plans or return to Original Medicare. You are never permanently locked in.

My spouse has CHAMPVA — do they qualify too?

Yes. Dependents with CHAMPVA are eligible for the same Medicare Advantage programs available to TRICARE For Life recipients. This is one of the most frequently missed benefits for surviving spouses.

When can I enroll in Medicare Advantage?

You can enroll once you have Medicare Parts A and B. You can sign up three months before turning 65 and up to three months after. You may also qualify earlier if you are medically retired or have a qualifying disability.
